ROCKPORT – Manning Webb’s RBI single in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and Rockport beat Newburgh 4-1 in American Legion baseball Thursday.

The decisive inning started when Reece Davis led off by reaching base on an error by the shortstop before advancing to second on a sacrifice and to third on a passed ball.

After he scored the go-ahead run, Trever Zink followed with a two-run home run that scored Manning Webb to give Post 254 a three-run lead.

The three-run sixth spoiled a solid start for Newburgh’s Andrew Dehner, who pitched all six innings while giving up just one earned run on five hits. He struck out five and didn’t issue a walk.

Kade Allen earned the complete-game win for Post 254, allowing one unearned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.

He did run into a little trouble in the seventh as Ian Peach hit a leadoff single. But was erased on Joseph Guidry’s double play to third.

With two outs, Cameron Green walked and Matthew Moore reached on an error by the shortstop, bringing the tying-run to bat in Gary Curtis, but he flew out to end the game.

Rockport took a 1-0 lead in the first when Gavin Poole doubled and scored on Zink’s double play ball to the pitcher.

Newburgh tied the game in the top of the sixth. Gary Curtis drew a leadoff walk and scored on an error with two outs.

Webb finished 2 for 3 for Rockport with a run scored and RBI. Zink was 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs and Poole was 1 for 3 with a double and run scored.

Nate James accounted for half of Newburgh’s hits, going 2 for 3.

Rockport improved to 12-6.
