April beekeeping workshop to focus on rules for selling honey

PERRY COUNTY – Honey is considered a low-risk food product. However, that doesn’t mean it can be sold just anywhere. Beekeepers need to understand the laws for selling honey as a home-based vendor or producing honey as a wholesale food establishment. Allen Harding of the Perry County Health Department will join the Perry County Beekeepers to discuss the Indiana State Department of Health rules surrounding honey sales. Following Allen’s talk, Pat Howerton will share “Beekeeping in South Africa,” a discussion of his recent trip visiting beekeepers in that country. Bill Gibson will then discuss getting started with bees and provide a time for questions and answers.

This meeting will be held in the Perry Central FFA Building, Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. This workshop is free and open to the public.

Take a snack to share. For more information, call the Purdue Extension Office in Perry County at (812) 547-7084.
