ROCKPORT — Rockport is raising sewer rates to compensate for an upcoming new wastewater treatment plant, as they held a public hearing on the issue before the regular public meeting held Thursday, March 14. No members of the public attended to voice opinions and council accepted the first reading of the rate increase ordinance.

The increase was approved at 16% over and above current rates. Households that use around 4,000 gallons currently pay around $40. With the increase, households will be paying about $55 for the same usage.
