ROCKPORT – The Association for a Better Rockport and Spencer County Chamber of Commerce hosted a celebration at the Rockport City Art Park Wednesday, Oct. 4, to congratulate ABR’s inclusion as the newest member of the Indiana Main Street Program. This program, under the Indiana Office of Rural and Community Affairs, aims to foster redevelopment and improvement to downtown areas in Hoosier communities.

ABR is made up of local citizens and entrepreneurs from across the community with the shared goal of revitalizing Rockport by emphasizing its many qualities. The art park is a prime example of this, offering pedestrians an attractive green space to enjoy the city’s downtown area and businesses.

The event was marked with live music, food and drinks, a festive atmosphere and fair weather as many from the community stopped by to offer their own congratulations. Rockport Mayor Gay Ann Harney thanked everyone involved for helping spur the community effort along, including two representatives from OCRA who were present for the celebration.  She expressed hope this support from state and local leaders would help the City of Rockport continue to improve itself.

“This is what being a community is,” said Harney.
