FORT BRANCH—R.J. Shaw, Brandon Hanloh, Jake Burden and Jason Davis pinned their opponents to win PAC middle school wrestling titles March 12.
Heritage Hills placed third with 245 points and South Spencer was seventh with 147.
Gibson Southern won with 310 points.
Patriot Coach Mike Kemp said, “This is the first year that I can remember us filling every weight class and I’ve been here 13 years. That makes a big difference.”
The Patriots placed sixth last year.
The Rebels also improved from a eighth-place finish last year.
They had 9 of 13 wrestlers place.
Shaw of South Spencer pinned Dominik Richardville of Gibson Southern in just 19 seconds in the 165-pound championship.
Davis, also a Rebel, had similar success in the 80-pound weight class. He pinned Forest Park’s Luke Fleck in just 21 seconds.
Burden, another Rebel eighth grader, completed a perfect season when he pinned Cory Klem of Gibson Southern in 1:28 in the 155-pound match.
Rebel Coach Ike Stewart said, “We expected those guys to compete for championships and they really did turn it on.
“We were pretty full in the heavier weight classes this year.
Hanloh was the Patriots only champion. He pinned Jack Mitchel of Southridge in 1:38.
In the 200-pound weight class Tecumseh’s Adam Lytle edged Patriot Ryan Fisher 2-1 in the finals.
Cordell Miller of Heritage Hills was runner-up to Kaleb Greenwell of Gibson Southern by an 8-1 decision in the 125-pound finals.
North Posey’s Jordan Frymire beat Staten Oser of Heritage Hills 13-9 to win the 135-pound weight class.
North Posey’s Kayne Hildebrandt won an 8-1 decision over Patriot Garrett Vaal in the 75-pound championship.
“We were pretty spread out grade-wise with one-third sixth graders, one-third seventh graders and one-third eighth graders,” said Kemp.
“Which means we should return 14 or so kids next year, which is big.”
