DALE - A collision on U.S. 231 Thursday morning near Dale left a Dale man dead and injured the driver of the vehicle he was in.
The wreck occurred at the intersection of US 231 and SR 68 shortly after 8 a.m. The southbound lanes of U.S. 231 were closed as emergency crews responded to the accident.
According to Indiana State Police, the driver of a 2005 Ford Taurus headed west on Indiana 68 was attempting to cross the four-lane U.S. 231, failed to yield the right of way and was hit by a tractor-trailer.
The Taurus' passenger was killed and the driver was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evanville with head injuries. The chief investigator for the Spencer County coronor’s office, Doug Patmore, said the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of neck and head injuries.
The semi driver, Anthony Suddarth, 48, of Franklin, Ky., was not seriously hurt.
The Spencer County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Danny S. Hines, 37, of Dale. The driver of the Taurus was John W. Rudy, 65, also of Dale. Rudy is listed in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital.
