AUBURN, N.Y.—Blake Monar made his first appearance in a professional baseball game last Thursday for the Auburn Doubledays.
The 2008 South Spencer graduate relieved the Doubledays’ starting pitcher in the sixth with a 4-0 lead over the visiting Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Monar struck out the first batter swinging. The next batter lined out to second and the next flied out to center.
Monar returned in the seventh and got batters to fly, ground and pop out. Monar was replaced in the eighth. Auburn won 7-2.
He said via text message, “They are throwing the college guys sparingly.”
Auburn, 8-4, will play at 5-7 Williamsport, Pa., tonight.
