Local man catches 97.6-pound catfish

Joe Allen stopped by the Journal-Democrat’s office late Tuesday afternoon to be photographed with his 97.6 pound blue catfish. Allen, who lives in Kentucky, caught the monster with live bait just below the Newburgh dam. Allen said the late Bruce Medcalf formerly of Spencer County holds the state record for largest catfish at 104 pounds.
