OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine – Leroy Ayer Sr., 79, of Old Orchard Beach passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at St. Andre’s Healthcare Facility in Biddeford, Maine.
He was born in Grandview Aug. 26, 1932, the son of Roy and Helen Powell Ayer.
Leroy retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years and worked at Alcoa before moving to Maine. He work-ed on the Boston & Main Railroad for 20 years before retiring in 1998. He loved trains and liked going to Pine Point to watch the trains go by.
He enjoyed people and loved to be with his family at outings, birthdays and barbecues.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Delaney Ayer, March 13, 2008; a daughter, Laurie Ann Ayer; his brothers, Clarence Ray, Ralph, Paul and Bobby Ayer and his sisters, Pauline Ayer and Catherine Stute-ville.
He is survived by his daughters, Helen Catherine “Cathy” Eisenhower (Chris), Janet Lee Ayer (Craig Zahares); his sons, Leroy Ayer Jr. and Tom Ayer; grandchildren Christopher Eisenhower (Shonna), Catherine Brewer, Nichell Ayer and Jason, Shawn and Aaron Vance (Jody) and 11 great-grandchildren, all of Maine.
Cote Funeral Home in Saco, Maine, handled the arrangements. Burial will be at a later date.
