WINAMAC – David Lee Absher, 58, of Winamac, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at 1:02 p.m. at his home.
He was born April 18, 1953, in Muncie to the late Lewis Absher and Bessie (Partin) Absher.
David was a graduate of Muncie Southside High School in 1971. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force and attended Ball State University, majoring in radio and television. He was employed as a disc jockey for the Ball State radio station during that time.
In 1977, after his Oct. 1 marriage to Raye Anne Miller, the couple established their lifelong home in Winamac. From 1978-86, David served two terms as Pulaski County surveyor before establishing his own registered land surveyor business. During this time, David passed the Indiana Land Surveyor Licensing board in 1984, and also continued his educational pursuits in political science, earning a bachelor of arts degree from Valparaiso University in 1985. David was an active member of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors.
After leaving office, David served as assistant contract engineer for the Pulaski County surveyor’s office, as well as being a project consultant for the ongoing Monon Ditch reconstruction.
In his leisure time, David enjoyed outdoor activities, spending many hours target shooting, hunting and fishing with friends. He was a skillful chess player, enjoyed photography, listening to a wide range of music and watching classic movies, especially westerns.
David will be remembered as a man of great intellect, keen wit, quirky humor and a genuine love and commitment to his friends and his community.
He is survived by his wife, Raye Anne Absher and his son, John Absher, both of Winamac.
No public services will be held.
