AUBURN, N.Y.—Blake Monar, a 2008 South Spencer graduate, signed a contract to play in the Washington Nationals' organization Friday.

The Nationals assigned him to the Auburn Doubledays of Auburn, New York, a Class-A team that plays in the short-season New York-Penn league.

The terms of Monar's contract were not disclosed.

The Doubledays split a double-header home opener with the Batavia Muckdogs of New York Saturday.

Monar hadn’t appeared in a game as of Tuesday night, but his team was 4-1, leading the NYP league.

The Rockport native is just one of three left-handed pitchers for Auburn, which carries 16 pitchers. Monar is listed as No. 31.

His manager is Gary Cathcart and his pitching coach is Franklyn Bravo.
