St. Boniface Church picnic Sunday

FULDA – The annual St. Boniface Catholic Church picnic will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, on the church grounds at Fulda. 

Roast beef or fried chicken dinners with all the trimmings and dessert will be served in air-conditioned dining rooms from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take-outs are available.

Fulda’s famous soup will be sold by the bowl or bulk. Containers are available if you can’t provide one. The food court will serve the parish’s famous soup, delicious fried chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled tenderloins and drinks.  Ice cream, lemonade and soft drinks will also be available for your enjoyment. 

Tours of the church will be offered during the day.

Many beautiful handmade quilts will be raffled off throughout the day. The grand raffle of over 100 prizes along with a special quilt drawing for beautiful handmade quilts.


Mt. Zion social Aug. 12

RICHLAND – Mt. Zion United Methodist Church will host its ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, tea and lemonade will be sold, along with apple, blackberry, cherry and peach cobblers and ice cream.

Mt. Zion UM Church is located at 4965 W CR 200 N., Richland.


Mariah Hill picnic Aug. 13

MARIAH HILL – The annual Mariah Hill Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Mariah Hill.

There will be fried chicken dinners served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the air-conditioned dining hall. Other food served will include hamburgers, Mexican food, ice cream and lemon shake-ups. There will also be inflatables and children’s games. The grand raffle will begin at 4:30 p.m. There will be a free shuttle service provided.


Heritage Hills Baptist Church hosting “Back to School” breakfast Sunday

SANTA CLAUS – Heritage Hills Baptist Church will host a “Back to School” breakfast at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at its Christian Life Center, located at 1415 W. Old Friendship Church hosting Lord’s Acre dinner and auction

LYNNVILLE – Old Friendship Church will hold a Lord’s Acre Dinner and Auction Saturday, Aug. 12.  The dinner will start at 4 p.m. The cost is  $8 for adults and  $4 for children 10 and younger. The auction will start at 6 p.m. Some of the items in the auction include quilts, handmade wood items and tickets to various attractions.  There will also be a country store with fresh and canned vegetables. Everyone is welcome.

Monk  passes away unexpectedly

ST. MEINRAD – The Rev. Barnabas Gillespie OSB, 70, a monk and priest of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, died Friday at the monastery. Fr. Barnabas joined the monastery at Saint Meinrad in 1972 and professed and was ordained a priest in 1977. 

In 1998, he began a 14-year assignment as pastor of the parishes of St. Michael in Cannelton and St. Pius in Troy.

The Office of the Dead will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the Archabbey Church, followed by visitation until 9 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m. in the Archabbey Church, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Archabbey Cemetery.
